Dr Shamarao Jahagirdar is Professor & Chief Scientific Officer (Plant Pathology), Directorate of Research, UAS, Dharwad. The Technologies developed by his group in Pant Pathology, such as seed treatment with bio-agent Trichoderma have been widely adopted by the farming community of northern Karnataka for managing charcoal of sorghum and wilt of chickpea. Development and release of first ever highly rust resistant and high yielding varieties of soybean for Karnataka and other Southern states and varieties for north eastern zone besides DSb 31 for the state of Karnataka. NRC 130 for Central zone and NRC 128 for Eastern zone.
He published nearly 150 research papers in scientific journals and 5 books (both in English and Kannada). 15 students have completed their M.Sc. & Ph. D. in Plant Pathology.
Dr Jahagirdar is a Life member of many professional bodies including Society for Plant Research, Indian Phytopathological Society, Asian PGPR Society, Indian Society of Plant Pathologists, National Environmental Science Academy, American Pathological Society (USA) etc. He visited 15 countries and served as an Executive Member of Association of Agrometerologist, Anand Agricultural University, Anand, Gujarat during 2011to 2015.
He was conferred International fellowship awards (from Korea, Israel and Netherland governments), Sir C V Raman Young Scientist Award-2013, Govt. of Karnataka, Prof. J.F Dastur Memorial National Award, New Delhi, International Achievement Award-2017 by Science & Technology, Mumbai, MASHAV Fellowship from Israel in 2005, Young Scientist Award by NESA, New Delhi in 2004 etc. He is Fellow of Indian Phytopathological Society, Fellow of IBRF, Fellow of Society for Advancement of Biodiversity Science and Fellow of Society for Plant Research (FSPR).
Dr Jahagirdar successfully completed 15 externally funded projects and worked as Nodal Officer (International Activities) of World Bank funded ICAR-NAHEP-IDP of UAS, Dharwad
