Prof. Bandana Bose

India


Dr. Bandana Bose did her M.Sc. and Ph.D.in Botany in1976 and 1980 respectively from DDU, Gorakhpur and was the recipient of JRF, SRF and PDF of CSIR. She started her research career in 1976 and teaching from 1981. She attended many national and International conferences in India and Abroad. Dr Bose supervised 16 Ph. D. and 45 M.Sc. students for their respective degrees and has published 10 Books/Proceeding /Practical manuals, 22 Book Chapters, 110 Research Papers & Review articles. Dr Bandana Bose started her academic career in 1981 as Lecturer, Botany Department, D.D.University, Gorakhpur, thereafter in 1983, she joined Plant Physiology Department, Institute of Agricultural Sciences, B.H.U. as Lecturer and after periodic promotion, she superannuated in June 2019 after serving as Dean.
She is pioneer in introducing nitrate seed treatment technology and established that nitrate seed hardening (seed priming) can improve the production (more than 20 to 30%) of a number of crops and vegetables under biotic and abiotic stresses. She and her co-workers established for the first time the physiological role of leaf extract of Moringa spp. in improving the plant growth, introduced high frequency plant regeneration of rice through somatic embryogenesis and conceptualized that Artificial Night Light Pollution (ANLP; name coined by our team) is a serious threat to crop growth.
Dr Bose bagged a number of awards like R.D. Asana Young Scientist Medal (ISPP), Young Scientist & Millenium Gold Medal 2000 (SPR), Prof.H.S.Srivastava Memorial Award Lecture and Medal of SPR, and Life time achievement awards from societies: Society of Life Sciences(SLS) (2022) & MAHIMA(2017), India. She also received Fellow awards of ISPP, IBS, IABS, BSRD & SPR. She has been conferred with Life time achievement Award - 2023 by SPR and SPR-Springer Fellow award -2024 (FSPR).
Dr Bandana Bose also served as Joint Secretary: ISPP ,New Delhi (1989-1991); Member Editorial Board , Indian Journal of Plant Physiology, New Delhi and Editorial Advisory Board of the journal “Physiology and Molecular Biology of Plants”; Elected Vice President of PHSS Foundation for Science and Society, Luknow-2006-2008 and 2014-2016; Member Executive Committee (IABS, Kolkata and SPR, India). Dr. Bose organized a number of National and International conferences.
