Dr. Thomas Smith is an environmental biologist. He currently is an Associate Professor at Arkansas State University–Beebe and an Adjunct Professor at Grand Canyon University. He has a Ph.D. in Environmental Biology from the University of Louisville with a specialization in algal ecology and taxonomy. Dr. Smith was the Dean of Math and Science at ASU–Beebe and Chair of the Biology and Chemistry Department at Ave Maria University. He has authored over 30 books and journal articles focusing on phycology especially cyanobacteria and algal diversity from across the United States, Caribbean, and throughout the world. His research extends to sustainable solutions, such as bioethanol production and commercial seaweed cultivation. Recognized for his contributions to the field, he received the Faculty Excellence Award for Research from Southern Arkansas University.
