Photosynthesis stands out as one of the most important mechanisms for maintaining terrestrial life. However, the means by which photosynthesis occurs are sometimes so complex that they make the teaching and learning process difficult. The objective was to characterize and compare the performance of research in the teaching of Plant Physiology, especially photosynthetic metabolism in Brazil and the United States between 1980 and 2022. The SCOPUS-Elsevier database was used to extract metadata between the period from 1980 to 2022 using the descriptors “sciences”, “photosynthesis” and “learning”. The results demonstrated the recovery of 54 documents, 96% of which were of American origin, presenting the highest publication rate between 2012 and 2022. Social Sciences was the most pertinent thematic area. The most relevant keywords focused on terms associated with teaching, learning and methodologies within the context of photosynthesis. The findings showed the advancement of research in the application of new teaching methodologies regarding photosynthetic metabolism. It is concluded that the bibliometric and scientometric study provided relevant data to understand how teaching-learning research on photosynthesis is found within Brazil and the United States.
