The present investigation was carried out to understand the effects of heading back on physiological and fruit growth parameters of mango (Mangifera indica L.) cv. Amrapali. In response to heading back treatments, higher N (14.4%), P (31.9%), Fe (23.5%), Mn (24.8%) in trees headed back to 5 years ago and Ca (5.2%) Zn (56.5%) in trees headed back 10 years ago over control reported. Chlorophyll ‘a’, ‘b’ and total content was elevated in trees headed back 5 years ago and diminished in trees headed back 10-years ago than control. Reducing sugar was observed higher in trees headed back 5 years ago and lowest in control trees. The highest leaf length, width, leaf area, leaf fresh and dry weights were recorded in trees headed back 5 years ago. The maximum number of panicles, malformed panicles, healthy panicles, malformation percentage, fruits per tree and estimated yield was noted in control trees over headed back trees. However, fruit length, width and volume were more in trees headed back 5 years ago compared to control. In trees headed back 10 years ago had higher titratable acidity while it was lowest in trees headed back 5 years ago. Recent research has demonstrated that Headed-back to 5 years ago trees exhibit improved physico-chemical characteristics and produce fruit that is suitable for the market.
