Abstract

An experiment was conducted with 45 diverse genotypes of castor (Ricinus communis L.) to screen germplasm accessions for drought tolerance to assess variability, heritability, genetic advance, relationship of yield and physiological components with yield and genetic diversity to find high yielding divergent genotypes for drought conditions. The study was conducted during kharif season of 2011–12 at Agricultural College and Research Institute, Madurai. The results revealed that hybridization among RG 3116, RG 2481 and RG 2377 and between RG 3116 and RG 2958 were effective in producing high yielding drought tolerant varieties and hybrids of castor.
