Abstract

The present paper deals with a total of 11 species of the genus Spirogyra from wetlands of river Kosi basin. Of these, two species (S. kushii JHA et KARGUPTA sp. nov. and S. madhubensis JHA et KARGUPTA sp. nov.) are new to science; one species (S. gabonensis Gauthier- Lievre) as new records to India and one species: S. minor (Schmidle) Transeau as new records to Bihar. The six species of Spirogyra are, however, described for the first time from the country of Nepal.
