It has been observed that the detectable enzyme activities increase or decrease in certain host plants only after a pathogen attack. This investigation examined the change in the activities of iso-enzymes of peroxidase and polyphenol oxidase in host plant barley. Its relation to systemic acquired resistance, pathogenesis related genes and marker genes termed SAR genes. It introduced to the oxidative burst resulting from catalysis of enzymes on pathogen attack. The experiments were performed on barley plants by spraying them with seed extracts of Trachyspermum ammi (Carom in English). Sampling was done every 16 hours to prepare leaf extracts for gel analysis. This was done separately to check the effects of plant extracts on both the enzymes peroxidase and polyphenol oxidase. Based on the data, enhancement activity of enzymes was observed after 32 hours of spray. The increased activity of both the enzymes indicated that the plant extracts induce expression of defense genes. Hence, the water extracts of Trachyspermum ammi can be used as biocide which can induce systemic acquired resistance in barley plants.
