Poor translocation of micronutrients imposes major nutritional constraint which results in their low content in grains. The objective of this study was to improve the transport of reserve food materials to the developing sink with the help of plant growth regulators like gibberellic acid and cytokinin. A two-year field trial was conducted during kharif seasons of 2022 and 2023. The experiment was laid out in split-split plot design with 3 replications where two rice varieties (SAVA 127 and PR 126) were tested under three zinc (Zn) application methods, i.e., control (Zn0), soil application (ZnS), and soil + foliar application (Zn S + F) and four levels of phytohormones i.e. 0, 10 mg/L GA, 10 mg/L cytokinin and 5 mg/L each of GA + cytokinin. The parameters recorded were effective tillers per plant, panicle length, panicle weight, number of grains per panicle, grain and straw yield. Notably, Zn S + F along with 10 mg/L cytokinin showed significant improvements, where number of effective tillers, panicle length, panicle weight, number of grains per panicle and grain yield were increased by 33.3%, 17.1%, 19.2%, 7.14% and 11.9%, compared to control in variety PR 126 whereas variety SAVA 127 produced maximum straw yield (15.2% greater than control) under Zn S + F method along with 10 mg/L GA. Overall, Zn S + F method along with foliar spray of 10 mg/L cytokinin was found to be most effective approach in enhancing various yield attributing characters and yield of rice varieties.
