Abstract

The objective of the present studies was to investigate water quality changes during snan on Kartik Purnima at Chaubari, Ramganga. Three sampling stations viz., Station A-pre bathing area, Station B-bathing area and Station C-post bathing area were selected. Physico-chemical parameters (pH, Temperature, Total Dissolved Solids, Dissolved Oxygen, Total Alkalinity, Chloride and Total Hardness) were monitored at the stations. The physicochemical parameters were insignificantly affected at Chaubari, Ramganga during Kartik Purnima snan.

The studies were further extended along the coast of river Ramganga commencing from Kalagarh (Site I), Moradabad (Site II), Bareilly (Site III), Jalalabad (Site IV) and Kannauj (Site V). The mean values of the parameters were compared with BIS standards. Moradabad (Site II) was the most polluted site apparently because of sewage disposal and release of large quantities of industrial effluents into the river water.
