Simmondsia chinensis (Link) Schneider commonly known as “Jojoba ” is native of shrub of northern Mexico and the southwestern United States, which exhibits both pharmaceutical and cosmetic values. The anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory property of the jojoba is attributed to phenolic content present in plant parts and predominantly in its seed meal. We have analyzed phenolic content in 14 different accessions of jojoba plant samples (leaf, stem and seed meal) using High Pressure Liquid Chromatography. Significant variation was observed in phenolic content distribution. Ferulic acid found to be in highest concentration among six phenolic acids (ferulic acid, caffeic acid, gallic acid, sinapic acid, cinnamic acid and o-caumaric acid). Three accessions K-11, Clone-64 and 58-5 showed higher amount of phenolics and accession “Clone-64 ” having highest. Thus, this accession could be better candidates for different commercial applications. Our data strongly suggest that chemical fingerprinting of different jojoja accessions provide us the better accessions which will we further used in future breeding programs.
