Abstract

A software for leaf area (and similar) measurements has been developed for the plant biologists which requires only a scanner and a PC. It is a multifunctional software for the measurements of small leaf area like that of Mimosa pudica or Prosopis juliflora leaflets (which is otherwise not possible with conventional methods), damage or senescence area, the color patch due to mutation or variability in variegated leaf or petal and related applications. Conventional methods have a number of the drawbacks in accuracy and take more time, but the software is very precise (sensitivity is one pixel in 72×72 image or 0.0035cm2) and quick. Bulk of data can be archive and utilize for calculation as and when required. Thus this software is useful for agronomists, ecologists, physiologists, entomologists and botanists in general.
