The genus Allium L. (Amaryllidaceae), comprising ca. 1100 species worldwide, is valued for its culinary, medicinal, and ornamental uses. During exploratory fieldwork in the Sairag Valley, district Kinnaur, Himachal Pradesh (India), specimens of an Allium taxon locally known as “Chisangskan” were collected at an elevation of ca. 2780 m AMSL. Based on morphological study and literature review the identity of this taxon was confirmed as Allium rosenbachianum Regel, a species earlier known only from Afghanistan, Pakistan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan. The present collection, therefore, represents the first confirmed record of A. rosenbachianum for the Indian flora, extending its known distribution eastwards into the western Himalaya.
