Pesticide, Agroecosystem, Risk, Regulated use
Pesticides use in agriculture has helped in increasing crop productivity on one hand but on the other hand unregulated excessive indiscriminate use of pesticides have caused different ecosystem and health problems. Functioning of ecosystem depends upon different components and their interrelated dependence. Excessive pesticide use directly or indirectly (residue) hinders the activity of bacteria, fungi and enzymes, etc., which in turn affects ecosystem functioning and thus nitrification, nitrogen fixation and other nutrient cycling processes. Hence, agrochemical added in the agroecosystem will influence the one or another biotic component. But by keeping the fact in mind that this effect can be temporary or permanent depending upon the dosage, etc., of the agrochemical, the use of these pesticides can be regulated. So, accordingly the need based site specific pesticides application should be done keeping the five R’s in mind viz. Right dose, Right time, Right method, Right type and Right place.
