Abstract

Coriander leaf essential oil holds a prominent place as a natural supply of raw materials; as such, it finds use in the food preservation. The negative effects of chemical fertilizers can be mitigated by using organic fertilizers, notably while producing and growing aromatic plants. Peels from potatoes and peas are a rich source of organic materials, vitamins, and antioxidants, which support plants in overcoming biotic and abiotic obstacles; additionally, they provide some growth minerals that support the development of plants. This study s main goal was to determine how different combinations of potato and pea peels affected the productivity of leaf coriander, which was conducted in an attempt to replace chemical fertilizers with organic waste products. There were two experiments conducted on sandy soil at the National Research Center s experimental station during two seasons. A one-way ANOVA was used to statistically analyze the average data from both seasons. The control treatment (recommended NPK) was defeated by all organic fertilizer treatments, such as potato and pea peels and enhanced the leaf production, carbohydrates, essential oil, main constituents of essential oil, protein, phenols, flavonoids, antioxidant capacity, N, P, K, Fe, Mn, Zn, and Cu contents. Addition of potato and pea peels is necessary for coriander herbs growing in sandy soils, as it helps the plants adjust to the hard conditions and improves production, essential oil content, and other physiological components. Thus, organic waste can be used in lieu of chemical fertilizers.
