Abstract

Psophocarpus tetragonolobus (L.) DC., commonly known as ‘winged bean ’is an un-derutilized leguminous crop, but it has multiple uses as food, fodder, intercrop and a treasure house of medicines. The knowledge of repro-ductive biology of flowering plants is important for understanding pollination and breeding sys-tems. An in depth knowledge of the reproduc-tive organs of the plant is very much essential for undertaking genetic improvement pro-grammes in the plant. In this context the style and ovary morphology of Psophocarpustetragonolobus (L.) Dc. was analyzed using cot-ton blue staining and microscopy. The study re-vealed that the style is of the hollow type and ovary is of the campylotropus type.
