Abstract

There is a growing demand for eco-friendly, non-toxic, and cost-effective nanomaterials that improve human health. To investigate the effectiveness of silver nanoparticles derived from marine macroalgae against two specific bacterial infections in poultry, methanol extracts from three types of seaweeds, Halimeda macroloba (green), Turbinaria conoides (brown), and Spyridia filamentosa (red), were utilized. The results showed that the zone of inhibition increased in response to higher concentrations of silver nanoparticles synthesized from these marine macroalgae. This was tested against two bacterial pathogens, as well as against AgNO3, which served as a control. Characterization techniques, including UV spectroscopy, FTIR, XRD, SEM, and EDAX, confirmed the successful formation of silver nanoparticles from the seaweeds. Additionally, LC-MS analysis identified bioactive compounds that exhibit antibacterial activity. Chemical compounds such as phyllophenone and phorbasterone, found in the marine macroalgae, may be responsible for the antibacterial effects against poultry pathogens, specifically Staphylococcus aureus and Salmonella typhi, as indicated by the LC-MS characterizations.
