The study was conducted to analyse the effect of different Salt (NaCl) concentrations (50mM and 100mM) on C-N balance in the calli induced using vegetative plant parts (leaf and stem) in Calotropis procera and (leaf, node and internode) in Cissus quadrangularis during the 4th and 6thweek. The biochemical status of the Total Protein, Proline, Total Nitrogen, Total Sugars and Phenolic content was estimated in 4th and 6th week old respective calli. The analyses revealed that Cissus quadrangularis leaf calli exhibit stress tolerance in terms of proline and phenolics upto 100mM NaCl treatment, whereas, Calotropis procera leaf calli exhibit raised proline levels upto 50mM NaCl treatment. Stem calli in both the cases appear to be adapted to the given stress rather than being tolerant, in general.
